Artificial Intelligence Enables Exploration of Antibody Space at Unprecedented Scale

Patrick Doonan PhD is a director of antibody engineering at XtalPi. He brings over a decade of industry experience in the field of antibody drug discovery from target ID to FIH. He has published several high impact journals during his tenure at Pfizer and Janssen furthering efforts in bispecifics, ADCs, and costimulation across multiple disease areas. His postdoctoral work at the University of Pennsylvania focused on calcium regulation of CART while collaborating with the Carl June lab. His recent focus has been to bring AI mediated drug discovery into use across different modalities. AI has already begun to revolutionize antibody drug discovery and XtalPi is leading the way to deliver higher quality drugs at disruptive speed.

Shawn Zhang, Ph.D.

Shawn Zhang, Ph.D., has served as our Chief Scientific Officer since October 2022, having held prior roles as Executive Vice President of R&D Operations and General Manager of Ambrx China, Senior Vice President of R&D Operations and Ambrx China, as well as Vice President of Research. Shawn is an established executive in the areas of pharmaceutical research and development, business development, product sourcing, in-licensing, project management and senior management leadership. Shawn has also demonstrated hands-on and managerial experience in drug target selection and validation, assay development, lead discovery, preclinical and clinical development. Before his appointment, Shawn held senior research and development roles at various companies including HUYA Biosciences International and Mitsubishi-Tanabe, where he established and led multiple drug projects in oncology, immunology, metabolic diseases and more.
Shawn completed his postdoc training at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory after he obtained his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from UCSD/Salk Institute, MS in molecular genetics from Institute of Genetics, Chinese Academy of Science and B.S. in biology from Beijing Normal University.

Mark Chiu

Attacking Solid Tumors of unmet Medical Needs using Trispecific Abs

Mark is the Chief Scientific Officer at Tavotek Biotherapeutics. He has nearly 35 years of experience in new drug discovery for AbbVie/Abbott Laboratories and Janssen. Prior to joining Tavotek, Dr. Chiu was the Head of the Process Analytical Sciences at Biotherapeutics Development and Head of Antibody Engineering in the Biologics Research Department at Janssen, the pharmaceutical branch of Johnson & Johnson (JNJ). His leadership resulted in more than 15 New Molecular Entities with 6 projects transitioning from Phase 1 to Phase 3 trials with 4 approved drugs. Dr. Chiu received his A.B. in Biophysics from University of California at Berkeley; Ph.D. degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and then completed postdoctoral training at the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry at the Federal Institute of Technology at Zurich, Switzerland and the Department of Microbiology at the University of Basel Biocentre.

Wei Wang

AI models to accelerate antibody development

Wei Wang is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at University of California, San Diego (UCSD). His research is focused on uncovering the regulatory architecture of the genome and understanding the underlying principles at genomic and molecular levels. One of the focus areas of his lab is to develop new AI technologies for engineering antibody and protein binding to specific targets.
